Manurewa Business Association BID Expansion – ON HOLD
Please find attached letter outlining information on the Manurewa BID Expansion project.
Unfortunately, the BID Expansion has been put on hold.
We are planning a re-ballot and a communication will be sent out in the coming weeks about this.
MANUREWA BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT BALLOT RESULTS
DATED: 24 March 2020
Voting for the proposed expansion of the Manurewa Business Improvement District closed at 12.00pm on Friday 20 March. The ballot process and counting of votes were managed by independent election service provider, Election Services Ltd, who have released the final results as follows:
Number of eligible voters: 261
Number of votes: 93 (35.6% return)
YES votes: 64 (68.8%)
NO votes: 29 (31.2%)
In accordance with Auckland Council’s BID Policy 2016, the result has met the requirements of
- achieving a threshold of at least 25% of the total voting forms being returned; and
- Of the returned voting forms, a minimum of 51% of the votes being in favour of the proposed boundary expansion
With a positive ballot result, our next steps to establish the BID are for the Association’s Committee to accept the ballot result, budget, business plan, boundary map and other details relating to the expansion. When it is safe to do so, an SGM will be held for the Association’s wider membership. Pending acceptance of the result, we will then be seeking resolution from the Manurewa Local Board to recommend to Council’s governing body to resolve that the boundary expansion and targeted rate are set for implementation. We are seeking clarification on the timeframe for this process and will advise when more information is available.
In recognition of the current COVID-19 situation, we would like to emphasise that the Association is working extremely hard to minimise the impacts of the financial downturn and to sustain local businesses now and into the future. Accordingly, we are in close conversation with council and the Local Board to ensure any developments regarding the BID Expansion will be carefully considered within the current context of Manurewa’s economic circumstances.
If you have any concerns or questions about the above, please contact Neil Punja on 027 455 3173 or email manager@manurewabusiness.co.nz
Election information applicable 21 February 2020 to 20 March 2020
In 2019 the Manurewa and Clendon Business Associations merged their operations to maximise the benefits for businesses in the area. To build and maintain momentum for our Town Centres, two key pieces of work are underway – developing a 5-Year Plan for the Association, and expanding the boundaries of Manurewa’s Business Improvement District (BID) to reflect the wider area of operation.
We are really excited about the opportunities that this provides. Through our new Plan we will be benefitting businesses in and between both town centres, and through an expanded BID we will have funding to get things done.
Voting to expand the BID opens 21 February 2020. Regular updates will be provided from early January 2020.
There will be three public meetings held in Manurewa and Clendon to answer any questions and for eligible voters to find out more about the BID expansion and how the benefits will effect them. Details are noted below of when and where the meetings will be held.
